“It is better to go to a funeral than a feast. For death is the destiny of every person, and the living should take this to heart.” Ecclesiastes 7:2 (NET Bible)
The loss of a family member or friend is a life-changing experience. Many, for the first time, face not only the mortality of a loved one, but their own as well. Therefore, it is critically important that ministry professionals lead funerals with competence and compassion. This is why I wrote “Leading Today’s Funerals.” (Baker Publishing, 1997)
I have led more than a thousand funerals. The heart of what I have learned about effective funeral-related ministries is found in this volume. My book is in its fourth printing and is being used around the world to train pastors how to improve their own bereavement ministry.
